Announcement Kerry Washington Will Host SNL Follows Kenan Thompson Comments

blackactresses-kerry-washington-www.blallywood.comKerry Washington, a star who has reached tremendous fame starring as Olivia Pope on the ABC television show Scandal, (as if she needs introduction) will host Saturday Night Live on November 2, 2013 (thanks, Deadline). It will be her first time appearing on the comedy sketch show.

The announcement came one day after all hell broke loose online when Kenan Thompson said SNL wasn’t finding the “ready” Black female comedians in their auditions. His exact words were ”It’s just a tough part of the business…Like in auditions, they just never find ones that are ready.” What he said in the rest of the interview, or even before and after this sentence, remains unknown. Online news outlets have twisted the words in a way that perpetuates the idea that Black females are not qualified for the position, which is obviously not the case. Read my opinion of the Kenan Thompson Black female comedian controversy here.

These issues aside, we saw Kerry Washington do comedy earlier in 2013 when she starred alongside Craig Robinson in the film Peeples. Even so, its not a genre fans are used to seeing her in. How do you think she will do?
