Many Black Actors Voicing Rio 2: Janelle Monae, Jamie Foxx, Amanda Stenberg, Will.i.am, Tracy Morgan, Bruno Mars
The animated sequel Rio 2 has cast a number of new voice actors. Several Black actors are among the ranks including Janelle Monae, Jamie Foxx, Amanda Stenberg, will.i.am, Tracy Morgan, and Bruno Mars. Monae, Stengberg, and Mars’ characters have not yet been announced.
However, will.i.am will play Pedro the cardinal, Foxx will voice Nico, a yellow canary who is Pedro’s best friend, and Tracy Morgan will play Luiz the bulldog.
Other actors providing voices in the project include George Lopez, Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, Leslie Man, Jemaine Clement, Rodrigo Santoro, Jake T. Austin, Bebel Gilberto, Andy Garcia, Kristin Cheoweth, Rita Moreno, Rachel Crow and Pierce Gagnon.

Blue Sky Studios is responsible for producing Rio 2, and the studio is clearly not afraid to spend the budget on casting several well known celebrities. Perhaps Blue Sky is attempting to mimick Pixar by producing animated films that appeal to viewers of all ages. Does this diverse and extensive casting list make the film more appealing to you?
