It has been revealed that Will Smith was one of six actors seriously considered for the role of Django in the highly anticipated Djano unchained. According to Will Smith, scheduling conflicts with Men in Black III interfered with his ability to do the film. In a quote found over at AceShowbiz, he sounded regretful on missing out on the opportunity:

“I was in the middle of Men In Black 3 and [Tarantino] was ready to go, and I just couldn’t sit with him and get through the issues, so I didn’t want to hold him up. That thing’s going to be ridiculous. It is a genius screenplay.”

The film’s director, Quentin Tarantino,  sounded pretty happy with his choice. In another quote from the same article, Quentin Tarantino said of Jamie Foxx:

“He understood what I was writing, he understood what needed to be there and he understood what needed to be on screen and he understood how people should take it,” the Tennessee native continued. “But then, also, just to cut to the chase, he was the cowboy. I met six guys, six magnificent actors, but he was the cowboy and I was looking for the cowboy.”

Both seem entirely capable of giving a great performance in the role. Is there one you would have preferred to see?
