Larenz Tate And Amandla Stenberg Join Craig Robinson’s Sitcom

black-actors-craig-robinson-amandla-stenberg-larenz-tateAs NBC’s The Office marches closer to its series finale, stars like Craig Robinson (middle picture), who plays Darryl Philbin, are branching out.  After 9 seasons on one show, it can be hard to build a new image, but Robinson is doing just fine. In addition to appearing in the upcoming film Peeple’s as love interest of Kerry Washington, and in Rapturepalooza, Robinson has his own TV show lined up.

The show centers on a talented musician (Robinson) with rough edges who adjusts to his new life as a music teacher in a big-city middle school, where he encounters teacher politics and the temptations of single moms.

According to  Eurweb, two stars, Larenz Tate and Amandla Stenberg, have been added to the cast:

Tate will play Kevin, Craig’s brother and partner in the duo’s band, The Filthy Gentleman. The character is described as a charismatic lady-killer who, thanks to his musical ability, has never held a regular job and who thinks Craig’s dedication to his students is a waste of time.

“Hunger Games” standout Amandla Stenberg has also signed on to play Irene, a spunky, fearless and smart eighth grader who is desperate to learn to sing despite her terribly off-key voice and Craig’s reluctance to teach her.

It’s great too see such a range of Black actors being cast for new shows that will air in the fall. While some shows being filmed may not make the cut in the long run, this one looks promising.
