A Haunted House Sequel Is In The Works

by on April 16, 2013

black-films-a-haunted-houseIts now official that the January 2013 horror “comedy” (because Marlon Wayans doesn’t like calling it a parody) A Haunted House will have a sequel. Marlon Wayans and Rick Alvarez will once again write the movie’s script (Cinema Blend). The first Haunted House film did well at the box office. The budget was only $2.5 million, so any sort of success meant a profit. Still, the film far exceeded the profitability earning just over $40 million.

Currently the similarly themed Scary Movie 5 is in theaters. Shawn and Marlon Wayans actually wrote the first 4 movies in the Scary Movie franchise before breaking out and creating their own film. Scary Movie 5 made $15.2 million its first weekend in theaters, around 3 million less than what A Haunted House pulled in its opening weekend 3 months back. Unfortunately Scary Movie 5 cost $45 million to produce. Looks like the Wayans brothers got the last laugh.
