Heather Headley Bodyguard Broadway Adaptation Rehearsals Have Begun

by on August 8, 2012

Heather Headley, Tony and Grammy winning performer,  and Broadway veteran,  will play Rachel Marron, the character the late Whitney Houston played in the film version of the bodyguard. Headley spent many years on the Broadway stage performing the title role in Aida, and supporting role as Nala in The Lion King just before that. She’s been recording albums as a gospel artist more recently.

Lloyd Owen has been cast as her co-star and will portray Frank Farmer who was played by Kevin Costner in the film.

According to Theater Mania, the show will debut on December 5th, 2012, with previews beginning in November. Songs that will be in the production include:

  • Queen of the Night
  • So Emotional
  • One Moment in Time
  • Saving All My Love
  • I’m Your Baby Tonight
  • Run to You
  • I Have Nothing
  • I Wanna Dance With Somebody
  • I Will Always Love You

Heather Headley has played largely positive characters in her past roles. It will be interesting to see whether this adaptation will give character Rachel Marron the sass and attitude Whitney Houston carried to the role..
