Blair Underwood Blallywood.comA production of William Shakespeare’s Othello will debut June 22, 2014 at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, California. The play will kick off the venue’s Summer Shakespeare Festival. Blair Underwood is taking on the title role of Othello. Joining him on stage are Kristen Connolly, appearing as Desdemona, and Richard Thomas, appearing as as Iago. The play will run on the Old Globe’s outdoor stage on June 22nd before moving indoors. Othello will run through July 27, 2014.

Underwood is no stranger to stage roles. He appeared in A Streetcar Named Desire on Broadway two years ago which we wrote about in this post. Underwood is not a Shakeapeare newbie either. He also cast as Banquo in a yet to be seen Caribbean Remix of Shakepeare’s Macbeth titled Macbett which we wrote about in this post. And just last month Blair appeared in the televised version of the play A Trip To Bountiful on Lifetime. Its good to see that Underwood has plenty of options following the cancellation of his cop show Ironside in 2013. Its clear that he chooses the roles he wants and never seems to have trouble finding them.
