The 2014 BAFTA (British Academy Film Awards) ceremony took place on February 16, 2014. During the award ceremony, which is about the equivalent of the Oscars in Britain, the Best Film award went to 12 Years As A Slave. Chiwetel Ejiofor, who played the lead in the film, walked away with the Best Actor award. Two awards is a slight disapointment considering then film was nominated for ten. Lupita Nyong’o was nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category, but Jennifer Lawrence took home the award for her role in American Hustle. Nyong’o was also pitted against Lawrence in this year’s Golden Globes ceremony, but Lawrence took the award in that as well. Nyong’o will have one last major award show to claim a Best Supporting Actress prize on Sunday March 2nd when the Oscar take place.
