Riddick Ousts The Butler As #1 At Box Office Once And For All

by on September 8, 2013

riddickouststhebutleratboxofficeThe Butler has managed to stay on top of the box office for the past 3 weeks while dusting off competition from films like One Direction: This Is Us, and The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. Last week the numbers were close, but taking the Labor Day holiday into consideration, The Butler made slightly more than the One Direction documentary. Now, after its 4th week in theaters, it has finally been overtaken by the debut of Riddick.

The Butler dropped to $8.9 million this weekend, while Riddick grossed $18.6 million. This puts the nail in the coffin for The Butler’s stay on top. As of today, September 8th, The Butler has grossed $91.9 million (Box Office Mojo), so it is still a marvelous success. Its run had to end sometime.
