blackactorsidriselbalutherfilmIdris Elba’s hit crime drama series Luther is heading to the big screen. The show has been a major hit on the BBC network, and has grown an audience in the United States since becoming available on Netflix’s instant streaming service. Idris Elba’s fan base has increased since the series made its debut in 2010. His roles in big budget films like Thor, Pacific Rim, and the upcoming Long Walk To Freedom have demonstrated his versatility and built up his credibility as a star. Clearly studios are wanting to capitalize on his current marketability. According to Chorley Citizen, the film will be a prequel the the show’s first season involving the characters Justin Ripley, Luther’s Wife, Zoe, and colleague Ian Reed.

If you’re a fan of the show would you have preferred a Luther sequel, or do you think a prequel is the right choice for a theatrical release?
