Watch Michelle Obama Announce Oscar Best Picture Nominees From White House

Last night at the Academy Awards First Lady Michelle Obama announced the nominees for Best Picture, the event’s most anticipated category. For those who didn’t watch, its important to point out that she gave a virtual presentation, and Michelle Obama did not actually attend the event in person.  Some have criticized the First Lady for giving any of her attention to the Oscars at all. However, many of these critics probably don’t realize that the First Lady has been campaigning for arts education vigorously since 2012. She’s hosted events at the White House and around the country emphasizing the importance of art and music in public schools, so it makes perfect since for her to participate in one of the most popular events  recognizing achievement in the arts. Watch a clip of Michelle Obama announcing the nominees below.
