Its now been officially confirmed that young starlet Quvenzhane Wallis will replace Willow Smith and play Annie in the Smith’s upcoming film remake. Willow Smith dropped out claiming that she just wants to enjoy being a kid. The film remake was originally intended to be a vehicle for Willow Smith’s acting career. Will Smith, who is still producing, recruited Jay-Z to write musical tracks for the upcoming  film.

Sony Pictures’ President of Production Hannah Minghella said in a statement posted on Just Jared:

With the recent Academy Award nomination and critical acclaim, Quvenzhane Wallis is a true star and we believe her portrayal as Annie will make her a true worldwide star. She is an extraordinary young talent with an amazing range, not only as an actress but as a singer and dancer, and we can’t wait for audiences to further discover her.”

An unrelated Broadway production is also in pre-production,and this may help generate additional interest in this classic story.  Who is looking forward to seeing this version of Annie?
