An all new “reality show” titled Married To Medicine is scheduled to premiere on Bravo March 24, 2013. The show is based in Atlanta, and revolves around Black females, some who are doctors wives, and some are doctors themselves. In the trailer the women are portrayed as money loving socialites who spend free time engaging in poolside cat fights.

The response from Black women has been negative. A petition has even been submitted to Change.org for Bravo to cancel the show.

Watch the trailer for the series below and decide whether you side with the petitioners.

Below is an excerpt of the change.org petition explaining why the show should be cancelled.

Black female physicians only compose 1% of the American workforce of physicians. Due to our small numbers, the depiction of Black female doctors in media, on any scale, highly affects the public’s view on the character of all future and current African American female doctors.

Bravo’s “Married to Medicine” not only exploits the 6 lives of its Black female cast members, but, through its advertisements and commercials, heavily associates Black females in medicine with materialism, “cat fights”, and unprofessionalism.

Hence, for the sake of integrity and character of black female physicians, we must ask that Bravo immediately remove and cancel “Married to Medicine” from its channel, website, and any other media.

After watching the trailer, do you think the show goes a little too far? If so you can join me in signing the petition here.
