Kid Cudi (aka Scott Mescudi) has been cast in the Need For Speed movie that will hit theaters February 7, 2014. The film won’t be based on any specific video game in the franchise. Most of the series’ games involve cars racing on various tracks as they are pursued by police. The film is described as:

“a fast-paced, high-octane film rooted in the tradition of the great car culture films of the ’70s while being extremely faithful to the spirit of the video game franchise.”

Cudi will play the best friend to the main character, who is being portrayed by Breaking Bad’s Emmy winning Aaron Paul. Imogen Poots and Dominic Cooper will also co-star according to IGN.

Does this film adaptation sound like a hack to compete with the success of Fast And Furious by stealing some built in credibility from an existing franchise? If so, I don’t mind!
