Almost all major entertainment news outlets have picked up the story that Jay-Z is working on the score for The Great Gatsby soundtrack.

The tweet that broke the news was posted by @thebullits on 12/30/12. He wrote:

“Jay-Z and myself have been working tirelessly on the score for the upcoming #CLASSIC The Great Gatsby! It is too DOPE for words!”

In the trailer for The Great Gatsby (posted below), the track “No Church In The Wild” from Jay-Z’s Watch The Throne album plays.

Clearly this an attempt to make the film adaptation of a book published in 1925, and often found on school required reading lists, more appealing to today’s audience. Some blogs are speculating that this involvement was a publicity move. And its true that no information is available on how much of the score will be Jay Z’s own contribution.

However, for the doubters who question Jay-Z’s musical talent beyond rap, keep in mind Jay-Z is reportedly providing music for the soundtrack to the Annie film remake which will star Willow Smith. He also helped produce the soundtrack for NBA2K13 according to Hollywood Reporter.

Here’s the Great Gatsby trailer:

Does the music in the trailer, followed by this announcement, make you more or less likely to see the film?
