Won’t Back Down Makes History By Setting Worst Opening Record

by on October 4, 2012

Won’t Back Down, a film co-starring Viola Davis and Maggie Gyllenhaal, set a record for the worst opening of a film that appeared in more than 2,500 theaters. The film made  $2.6 million last weekend according toYahoo. Despite featuring 3 Oscar winners – Davis, Gyllenhaal, and Holly Hunter.

Its low performance doesn’t make it a bad movie. Watch Viola Davis in her portal of a teacher who is struggling to reform a school system that is failing kids:

Viola gives a realistic and convincing performance. Perhaps this is the problem. Has Hollywood has audiences to watch fairy-tales rather than real stories? Does this film, which is based on reality, play too much like an unexciting documentary?
