Who knew a a film about Jackie Robinson was in the works? The trailer for 42 (Robinson’s number) hit the web today, though the film won’t be coming out in theaters until April 2013 ( source, MTV)

The film will star Chadwick Boseman as Jackie Robinson, the first Major League Baseball player of color,  and Harrison Ford as the Dodgers’ general manager. The talented Nicole Beharie will play Robinson’s wife in the film.

The trailer is sensational. The tag line at the end of the trailer calls the film True Story of An American Legend. Watching the trailer, you truly get the sense that this not an attempt to cater toward Hollywood’s interpretation of what black viewers want to see. It looks likes a sincere attempt at an American “hero” story.

Watch the trailer below to get a better idea of the tone:

There was only one big name actor in the trailer, but the bit of acting showcased by Chadwick Boseman was impressive.
Are you a fan of sports films? If not, will you make an exception for this one?
