Zane! Black Cinema’s Response to 50 Shades of Grey Film Adaptations

by on August 10, 2012

The 50 Shades of Grey trilogy needs no introduction. What you might not know  about these books is that they are in the process of being transformed into a Hollywood film series. The popularity of “mature” fiction only seems to be increasing.

Adaptations of Jane Austen’s Regency era romantic novels Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility are being rewritten and published as erotic books (thanks thisisbath.co.uk).

The same article reports that the market for erotic fiction has increased by around 30% in the past 12 months, with a massive 50% of these sales being made on ebooks.

Black erotic literature will now be getting the same attention. Reports are in that the Zane books are being adapted for the big screen.

The Urban Daily posted that Billie Woodruff has been tapped to direct a Zane film, and Nia Long and Tasha Smith may star as the lead and her therapist respectively.

The boost in ebook sales of erotic literature may be an indicator that readers prefer privacy when reading these types of books when in public.  Do you think these same readers will prefer to rent the film rather than see it in a theater?

How interested are you in an erotic movie going experience? How would you feel about seeing a Zane film in 3D?
