Sherman Hemsley of Jeffersons Fame Dead

Sherman Hemsley, known by millions as George Jefferson, reportedly died at the age of 74 on July 24th, 2012.The actor played George Jefferson in a long television run from 1975-1985, in which there were 11 seasons, and 285 episodes. According to Wikipedia, “The Jeffersons is the longest-running sitcom with a predominantly black cast in the history of American television”. Even longer than Fresh Prince of Bel Air, a show in which, according to EOnline.com, Hemsley appeared. Last year, Hemsley appeared in an episode of Tyler Perry’s House of Payne, and he’s been in a variety of TV commercials.

The reason for his death remains unrevealed.
