Comic Con Reveals Danai Gurira’s Walking Dead Character

by on July 15, 2012

Dania Gurira was popular last week at Comic Con where she was interviewed by several pop culture sources such as  Vulture and MTV.

Danai Gurira will be featured in season 3 of the AMC hit The Walking Dead.  She made a brief appearance in a crucial moment of the Season 2 Finale in which she rescued a main character from a swarm of zombies.  Gurira’s character, Michonne, is a fierce zombie slayer in the comic series the show is based on.

An interview with the show’s executive producer, Robert Kirkman, was quoted at  Huffington Post, where he said of Michonne:

“The essence of the character — her personality, her motives, everything that makes Michonne Michonne — remains intact from the comics”.

Fans have strong opinions revolving around racial diversity on The Walking Dead.  While the show makes a notable effort to feature Asian and Black characters, some argue these character’s story arcs too often fall flat.   Could the arrival of Michonne satisfy diverse fans craving for a character that fills the gap?
