Production Started In BET 1 Hour Drama Staring Gabrielle Union
Production has started in the show Being Mary Jane which will debut on BET. The show, which was originally titled Single Black Female was written by creator of BET’s huge hit The Game, Mara Brock Akil. Mara also served as producing consultant on for ABC’s Cougar Town. Her husband, Salim Akil will be directing episodes of the show.

“Being Mary Jane” centers around “the work, social and family life of a successful African American career woman who has achieved a decorated career as the host of a fast paced 24-hour national cable news network. As Mary Jane juggles her life, her work and her commitment to family, viewers follow how far she’s willing to go to find those puzzle pieces that she, and society, insist are missing from her life as a single black female.”

Considering the size of this massively talented cast, it’s clear BET is pouring a lot of resources into production.
