Octavia Spencer and Michael B. Jordan May Star In Racial Murder Movie

Michael B. Jordan – Last seen in Chronicle and Red Tails may be making his way into a film centered around a racially motivated murder. IndieWire reports there are talks that he and Olivia Spencer, seen recently in The Help, will play major roles in the film Fruitvale. If it goes according to plan, Spencer will play Jordan’s protective mother in the film.

IndieWire also provided a brief synopsis of the plot. The film is:

“based the murder of 22-year old Oscar Grant who was fatally shot by BART police officer Johannes Mehserle, in Oakland, California, in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day 2009! The event was captured on multiple digital video and cell phone cameras, and the footage disseminated online and watched millions of times, leading to public outrage, protests and riots.”

The current controversy surrounding the Trayvon Martin murder case is speculated to have fueled progress in the creation of this film. However, we think film watchers who have seen the talents of Michael B. Jordan in action will need no media propellant to see this film.
